An editorial writer at The Boston Globe, Jeff Jacoby, came up with a good solution about the statues: Ask if the guy being honored is being honored for the despicable things he did. For example, Washington and Jefferson owned slaves, but when there are statues to them, it is not because of their slave owning, but because of their leadership of the United States. So leave those statues up. On the other hand, statues to Confederate generals are done specifically to honor their fight for the Confederacy. So remove those.
