Noir? Maybe, ask CJ. But noir in the woods. Which is not noir, in my book. You know, to me it is melodrama, with lots of "psychological" undercurrents which would make a field day for those who like psychology applied to movie. Unfortunately I like to apply, before psychology, credibility and logic and, as it often happens in the noir (or pseudo-noir) genre, here there is little. On the contrary, there is the usual heap of commonplaces, where you get interested at the start and then you start being afraid that it might be uncomplicated to see through the mystery as it isn't (and wasn't) for the characters in the previous 15 years. What I save of this mess (i read at IMDB that Scorsese likes the movie: had I known it before, I wouldn't have bought the dvd) is Julie London at 21. 5\10

I have a crappy PD copy on disc. I pretty much concur with titoli's comments; the film isn't all that interesting.

Selby's book lists it I'll add it in the index.

Saw this on youtube. It wasn't too bad.   Edward G Robinson gave a great performance as usual.  The plot was ok.  The only thing i didn't like was the semi implausible plot line of having that guy named Teller "guarding " the woods.  Other than that, the plot built up enough suspense to keep you wondering what the heck was going on.  I rate this one a 6 out of 10...

I saw this for the first time recently. It is difficult to categorise. I enjoyed it enough to watch it twice as there was a fast repeat of it on Talking Pictures. I liked watching a young Julie London too. Edward G. and Judith Anderson are great as usual.

I agree. Its difficult to categorize this film.  Its probably one of the reasons you don't really hear too much about this film.

Moorman, I notice that IMDb have the film's categories down as Drama, Film-Noir and Mystery. So they recognise that there is enough noir in it to be of interest to Film Noir fans.
