Seems will be getting a restored Fistful of Dynamite, as well as Fistful of Dollars, and FOAFDM next year.

The new restored DVDs of FOD, FDM and DYS are due in April, at least in the uk.
Any news whether they''ll receive the same audio treatment as the GBU SE: replacing the original gunshots w/ stock audio material for the 5.1 audio mix

I agree, Sensei. That "spaghetti gun-shot ping" was one of the elements that set those movies apart from the "norm" for want of a better word.

I knew I read something about the gunshots in Chris Frayling''s book, and after a few minutes of skimming I found it:

Sergio enjoyed playing with the design of the sound. They had a lot of meetings to discuss it. He hated silence. For instance, the revolvers are in fact Winchesters, and the Winchesters are little cannons. They sent the sound man off to a valley near Rome, where there are no roads or distracting noises. Sergio sent the man, who came back with "ping-pong-pung", ricochets and echoes. It wasn''t electronic. It was recorded in a natural setting, because he wanted air and atmosphere

I wonder if those sound restoration folks knew that when they replaced the best sounding gunshots ever. Just to make it sound technically good on their fancy 5.1 system. I''ve never seen so many gunshots wasted so badly... :''(

I wouldn''t mind the supermega5.1blowyourearsoffaudiomix if they''d just included the original mono as well, with the gunsounds intact.

Which company will restore them and wich company did restore OUATITW?

They will be restored by MGM.The OUATITW restoration was done by Paramount,I think.

Hasn''t the restoration been finished quite a while ago? I seem to recall the restored versions were already shown in theatres in the US. Or am I mistaken?

I just hope they include the English mono track on the dvd releases.
