Best deaths:

Final duel in Sanjuro

Harmonicas brother in OUTITW (brutal but powerful)

As for Cheyanne - I always thought it was pointless and had a tagged on feel to it.  After the duel, watching the first train arrive at Sweetwater was the last part of the film that needed to be tied up.  To watch Cheyanne die two minutes after finding out he got shot (which wasn't seen) seemed a little contrived.  As for not being a hero, Mr Choo Choo was pretty determined to build his railway despite his illness so in a sense he was the new kind of hero (overcoming adversity)

personnaly i don't like wilem dafoe's death in platoon. I find it very easy to do... slow motion and it's all right. Too dramatic... and strange in that movie: stone tried to do something very realistic, he isn't trying to do some esthetic in the pictures, exept during those few seconds... so strange. I know this is THE key scene of the movie, i know this explain all the movie, what it is about... but i don't like it even if i like platoon...

To conclude, my best death is: harmonica's brother (another that i had forgotten). Especially because the point of view of the scene is the point of view of harmonica, and that i am moved because of his feelings, and also because i don't see the brother dying, i just hear the bell ringing...

I'll go for the James Coburn double feature in DYS and Britt's death in Magnificent Seven.  Even after he has been shot, he still tries to throw his knife at the bandit who shot him.
