Apparently a thread for the best (with its previous companion) comedy western ever was never opened so far: a shame for the board (unless I messed up with the search procedure). Anyway, this was just to announce the passing away of Tony Binarelli, the roman magician whose hands are manipulating the cards for Hill.

A pretty good comedy, with a genuine feeling for running gags and some nice slapstick. Very funny and well enough directed. 8/10

Generally Barboni alias Clucher had a fine talent for comedy, and all his Spencer/Hill films are much funnier than all the other comedies of the duo. MNIN is of course a very special case in that regard.

Great fun of course. Not so sure about the English dubbing, probably it loses a lot. It's hilarious in Italian or German...
In Germany it was the most succesful film ever until TITANIC took over! Approx. 11 milion tickets sold as I recall...

A big success, but not the most successful in Germany, but still an impressive # 8 since 1957 with over 12 mio tickets sold. 5 mio more than the first Trinity and 6 mio more than MNIN, which was also a hit.
Well ... GBU made "only" 1 mio. Odd enough ...

But apart form The Junglebook (27 mio) and Titanic (19 mio) we have there also our Sergio with 13 mio for OuTW.
Also River Kwai (14,5), Ben Hur (13,5), Dr Zhivago (13,5) and later the first Harry Potter (12,5).

I re-watched the two movies and I repeat that these are the two best comedy westerns ever (with the possible exception of the Laurel and Hardy one, which is a comedy, though, more than a western). Just the poker scene or the restaurant one (copied by Belushi and Aykroyd) and the "confession" (with a funny Pupo de Luca) easily earn this one the rank. A pity that the De Angelis brothers couldn't come up with a good title song like Micalizzi did for the first one. 8/10
