This is not a western, strictly speaking. But so is not Blazing Saddles. I was uncertain whether posting it in the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as the italian title (devised as a commercial trick to lure Tarantino's fans) is, translated, Once Upon a Scam in Hollywood (and in one of the deleted scenes you can hear OUTA's theme!). And until my Sunday foray in the flea market had never heard about it. But when I saw the cast on the cover I couldn't but buy it with another dozen dvd's. I usually do not like Hollywood comedies, they usually are as formulaic as can be and the actors suck. But I was curious and I was right in picking it up. This is a good comedy and it could have been very good had it not been for, guess what, De Niro's performance. Here he shows he's not a comedian (yeah, King of Comedy: but was that a comedian part?And the other ones with Billy Cristal: but he was playing his usual gangster part ironically). His timing and plain delivery are not the right ones and only in the hospital bed scene he is funny; but that is because of the dialogue. The plot is a mixture of The Producers and Will E. Coyote, but it works. 7-8/10
