I don't know how many of you here heard about images generated via artificial intelligence. Not here to debate about them but since they are deeply transforming my industry and in the process of stealing my job, I'm spending quite a lot of time trying to master them these days. So I decided to have a little fun with generating movie stills from a totally invented old school SW. So far the only convincing image I got is this one:



I've made tons of good looking ones but they all seemed too much like CGI, I really wanted to achieve the good old SW look. Sorry for the black bar at the bottom, I didn't edit the picture, it's straight out of the AI.

Yes it still does, that's the oldest looking one I got. The AI isn't really optimized to create flawed images (those AI are actually based on denoise algorythms so they are much better at making things crisps and clear instead of getting things grainy and dirty). I guess i could easily improve things by using a different software and degrade the image. But I'd rather try to crack the AI to make it behave exactly how I want.

It will soon be possible. AI videos are getting better and better at the same rate as AI images improved in the past year.

Short sighted view. You wouldn't say so if you had witnessed the incredible pace of improvement of AI imagery.

This, on the other hand, is very likely. But the economic truth is that it probably doesn't matter that much. Even real humans look fake in most american blockbusters nowadays.

More importantly: are you still alive?

I know the whole thing improved much, very much, I'm not denying that. I remember the times in the 90s when we were playing games on our PCs, and they would say cubes with eyes and hair look ''real'', ''almost real''. I honestly just think there will always be that small hint, even when it's 99.5 % ''real'', that will make it worse than the worst real thing. You can call me stubborn or stupid if You want, I don't take it personal.

I'm talking baout AI generated images, which is a very recent developpement and a very specific part of "CGI". AI (artifical intelligence) generated images are done in a way that has the computer work from very little human direct input/craft. I can explain a bit how it works if you are interested but the thing is:
- the output isn't "3D" like most CGI, it's directly an image that mimics the characteristics of other images that were in the database the AI was trained on.
- it's currently stealing lots of jobs as we speak

AI generated still images weren't usable a year ago except for very specific cases. They are now used at every stage for most productions, and more and more often as the final result.
AI generated videos are currently where AI generated images were a year ago.
