I'm employed by a small production company at Warner Bros. I've been hearing persistent rumors about a potential revival of the Western (SW) genre. I've noticed that Mal Paso, Clint Eastwood's production company, is also located here on the lot. I'm curious to know if they have any involvement in this. Some of the speculation suggests that if such a revival were to occur, the film might be shot in Europe with a foreign crew, and there might also be the approval of Leone's son. I'm wondering if any of you have come across similar information or rumors regarding this matter.

I haven't heard any rumors and I haven't seen any recent Westerns save Blackthorn which really impressed me and that was more visually rather than from the performances. And it's because they come off like costume dramas rather than what we came to expect as the "real" thing. When Westerns were a real thing NYC Studio's and Hollywood had been making them since 1903. It went through to the 1980s with TV Westerns reinforcing the "thing."

The Western is done, we have more immigrants now, and right wing conservatives and religious fanatics have appropriated the Western and its look, they would like to go back to the days of Harry Carey, John Wayne, Ward Bond. It's a big turn off as a result to a wide variety of people.

I think if you wait long enough say 100 years the studio can reinvent the genre after nobody is left alive who remembers what they were like in the first place. You may be able to say, create a Steampunk Fantasy Western, kind of like The Wild Wild West, where you know from the get go that it's in some parallel Western Universe.

In the early 1970s, a friend sent me a big article from a Chicago newspaper about the dying out of spaghetti westerns.  They cited reasons such as greed among the locals when used for extras,  box office decreasing, etc.  The article focused on "Indio Black" with Yul Brynner directed by Frank Kramer (Gianfranco Parolini).  The film was renamed to "Adios Sabata" to cash on on Kramer's "Sabata" released earlier, and the title track still contains the phrase "Indio Black".

I've also read on this site and media that a lot of Almeria has been transformed into vegetable farms, and sand from the desert scene in GBU is mostly gone as was used to make concrete.

To be clear, you're talking about reviving the dollar trilogy or just SW in general? Because Leone's son has no power/rights on the SW genre.

I still don't really understand why Leone's son doesn't have the rights/rights to the SW genre.
