TGTBATU is a prequel

Ok i'm new so i'm sorry if this has been said before. I only found out that TGTBATU is a prequel a few months ago. Thats why Clint doesn't get his poncho until the end. Has anyone else heard this or am i going over old ground.

OK, GBU although is the last film made is set before a fistful of dollars, Thats why Clint is wearing different clothes until the end when he finds that poncho and his hat.
It is written by experts that it is a prequel.

Okay...But no, I disagree. It may be the same character (Leone said himself it could), but it's not. They seems to be the same (same clothes, same humour...). But if you look, they can not be the same; it's impossible. But Leone wanted similarities: he wanted Eastwood to manke to think at the Gabriel angel

There are a lot of theories and opinions about it, Chronologically, historically though by the arms depicted & used GBU, FAFDM, then AFOD.

I perfer to think of them as sort of "campfire stories" you know almost a visual recounting of the legends of a man with no distinct name the southwest. Stories that aren't in linear progression. They sort of of spread like this asterisk * outward rather than -----

I get a laugh out of some folks on the Clint Eastwood board who continue a linear account that also lumps in "The Outlaw Jose Wales" and finnishes with "Unforgiven" with the MWNN  ending up as "William Munney".

There is a grave in FOD dated 1873......which obviously follows the Cival war which was around 1860 ish so surely  it must follow GBU. Also his shirt is ripped to pieces in FOD and  at the end his poncho has holes in it. In FAFDM they aren't so FOD must also follow FAFDM.

i like your idea of camp fire stories joe. i don't mind which order i watch them in their all great but i think GBU is the best or 'epic'. Lets face it Tuco is a fantastic character and works well with Clint. I always laugh when Tucos in the bath playing with the bubbles like a kid.
My point was that in the time line GBU was first, but interesting that people all see it different ways. You're also all very polite on this forum ..i like that.

I think the real question is what order should they be viewed in on a Dollars Trilogy Day. This being a social film watching event in which you and your best film-buff friends get together and watch all three films back to back.

So, although I agree with the order they are set in being GBU, FOD, FFDM, I think they should be viewed in the order they were made FOD, FFDM, GBU. That way you start with the least brilliant then build up to the "headliner", just like seeing a gig.

i agree with what you say CJ; and it is coherent (?) with what leone said about it, in a french book you should all read... but which doesn't exist in english  

For the order in which the films have to be seen, i don't know... it pretty hard. The first time i saw GBU, i hadn't seen the others and i didn't know CLint Eastwood. It was great to whatch the opening sequence, wondering "who's the hero???". I was hesating between the three dusters of the begining... and i was really frigthened: they all look awfull

The begining is more obscure this way... and you have to wait a LONNNNNG time before seeing clint's face for the first time.

But it is also great to know who you are waiting; that makes me enjoy every time i whtch gbu again.

How on earth do they manage to weave together Outlaw Josey Wales AND gbu?
