On what do you watch your stuff?

Hi - I was curious as to what kind of screens people are watching Leone and the rest of their favourite films on.

Personally I live in a relatively small appartment and I do not like the size or design of widescreen tube televisions. So I wanna get myself a LCD wide - 27-30". I used to use a projector from my pc, and sound through my HIFI, but the projector just died, RIP. And the prices on LCD seem to be moving in the right direction these months. Anyone got any LCD-experiences?

Two years ago I used some of my company bonus (now I did work there 222 years before seeing my first penny of bonus) and put french doors onto my living room to make it into a second family room to get more use from it.  Since that room needed a television, itmade sense to go with the future technology, so I bought a 47 inch 16:9 widescreen Samsung HDTV; it was $1400, but it''s neat.  The Leone films are still too widescreen for it, so there still are bars on top and bottom, but less intrusive than on a 4:3 TV (one can always "stetch" the picture, but that distorts it a little).  My signal currently is NOT HD, but cable, and my channels over 100 are digital, so their quality is great, even without having a HD signal.  "Regular" channels are less clear; I''m mulling whether to spend $10 more per month to rent HD converter which will deliver HD for the maybe 12 HD channels currently available on the cable.  But the quality of the digital is so good anyway, I''ll be amazed how good the picture with true HD may be.  I also just picked up a progressive-scan DVD player to go along with my old one, but haven''t tried to compare whether the progressive scan adds any quality.

  uhh... I just have a 28" JVC TV set, LG VCR and Panasonic DVD player. I watch my Leone movies (and pretty much all my other movies) on DVD.... I''m pretty sure that, like a lot of you guys, I dream to one day have a ''home-cinema'' with all the trimmings! actually Cusser, your set-up sounds very cool.

i have a projection... luckily my bulbs haven''t burned out yet... those are expensive... it''s really nice though... roughly 6X8ft the way i have it set up now

Watch my movies on DVD. I have my television connected to my HIFI stereo. Great sound. It''s looks like the McBain killing is in my living room

to add insult to injury, i was stupid enough, back in those days, to buy a tele w/ built in VCR that broke down years ago. 
i do use WIN DVD  from time to time so i can work and catch a spaghetti at the same time. remember i''m bi-polar. this mental illness allows me to do several things at once...but how can you be in two places at once, when you''''re no where at all ? 
frothing at the mouth after reading what  cuss boy owns. top drawer stuff. wish i could afford something better, but the resolution on a 20 '' isn''t that bad w/ DVD.
i use ear googles on tele so as not to disturb my neighbors which i do anyway whenever i turn on my HAMMOND B-3 and amps to cut loose with my inimitable version of lust for gold. very,very loud w/ bass pedals .  it really rattles the windows, and the neighbors as well, lol

Well, just picked up in Oct a 32" Sharp, have a JVC DVD player and a Sony VHS, not a bad pic if you sit close enough, lol. Do have a little shop/office that I''m tinkering around with may be make it double as a home theater if I can get a resonable LCD flatscreen or some sort of projection TV.

Hey grandpa_chum, do any projections use LED''s for a light source?

 i watch them on JVC dvd player and 65 " widescreen I bought last year off Amazon.Size does make a difference
 as far as LCD is concerned they are better than plasma
 but still expensive one with a size of 60" or bigger is
 over $3500.

Sony 27" Wega flat screen HDTV ready 4:3. I just got this one in Oct. Originally, I bought a 32 16:9 Panasonic CRT, but I couldn't get used to watching all my 4:3 TV stretched out of proportion and the wife thought it was too big for the room so I took it back and got the Sony. My only regret is not going a little larger, but at least the wife's happy.

She wouldn't have minded going bigger with plasma, but we've heard so much negative info that we've decided to wait it out for the big boy! Also, for me, there's just not enough 16:9 programming right now and a 4:3 just suits me better.

Same here spag, I thought I'd pull the trigger on plasma/LCD this xmas but decided to put it off for another year.  Methinks 42" will be down around $1500 or so next year and there'll be a lot more HD content broadcast by then to justify it.   Even the wife is ok with it 

Will have to learn to somehow get by with 36" Sony WEGA and Bose surround till then.  But must admit to major TV envy    when I watch football at friends place on plasma.

Damn! I wish I had to learn to get by with a 36"! Oh well, when I do go big, I'm going BIG. She'll just have to handle it!

I live in a small appatment so I couldn't really have something bigger than my 32" Zenith TV.

I have a Panasonic Region 1 NTSC DVD player and I later bought a Malata region free PAL/NTSC player. However, I still have the Panasonic because it's better at reading mp3's.

Picabo, how do you like the Malata? I might pick one up down the road.

It does a great job but it was a little expensive (DVP-520). There are now least expensive players reading PAL-NTSC all regions DVD's and some of them even read the DivX format.
