Just found this movie at only 6 Euro... a snip... on the German Amazon site. Special Edition as well. Haven't seen it myself but it seems to be regarded as one of the better spaghetti's.
They also have Forgotten Pistolero at the same price.
Both have english audio.

Both are apparently good - got hold of copies a couple of weeks back, but haven't had a chance to view them yet.  Forgotten Pistolero has a veeeeery well known soundtrack.  I'd heard the music loads of times, but didn't know what it was from.

Yes, itssssss review time!

"This film was oh so close to nearly losing me. Maybe my attention span was limited - it had been a pretty tiring day after all (but thats another - and highly uninteresting - story!). But anyway, for pretty much the first third of the movie I was convinced that it was notable purely for being Tomas Milian's first foray into the Spaghetti Western genre that he is so renowned for (and rightly so).

Milian plays Jose Gomez, an outlaw treated with reverence by the small population that make up his hometown. He is freed from captivity by Eden (Zalewska), who looks at Gomez with wanting eyes, seeing him as a local hero. However, bounty hunter Luke Chilson (Wyler) is on his trail, and arrives at the town ahead of the escapee, to the wrath of the very protective townsfolk. When Gomez does arrive in town, with a group of bandits at the helm, the locals begin to experience that he is no longer the great man that they believed him to be, and begin to witness first hand why he has the bounty on his head.

Whilst the opening sequences are slow and stretched to near yawning point (even for me and, hey, I like slow films!), the second half of the movie more than makes up for it. The film really hits the heights as the locals witness the transformation of Gomez' character. Milian plays this role expertly, demonstrating clearly the promise that was to blossom fully in the very near future. Wyler's bounty hunter on the otherhand is far more restrained, yet apt for the character he portrays. There is also a fine supporting cast that includes Spaghetti favourites Mario Brega and Frank Brana, and a pretty powerful soundtrack provided by Cipriani.

All in all, I am relieved that I sat through the slow beginning, because the film does have so much going for it once it does get going. May day improved considerably. Well worth viewing".

Milian plays this character great.  Funnily enough, I was watching what I think was his second western tonight - Django Kill.  Its an excellent and weird little film that I seen a few times now, but perhaps Milian is a little lost in a stranger type role.  He is always at his best when there is a little humour.

Nice write up, as always  ;D and I'm hoping you'll let me post it at the site again, to counteract my write up.

The trailer makes it appetizing.

Can I ask about the accent of the speaker? Does he pronounces all the final "s" as "z"?

Is this the one about Tuco's children?  Or is that "The Ugly Little Ones"?

(Sorry, couldn't resist. :P)

"The Ugly ones" is good but not great.

"Forgotten Pistolero" was a complete bore. I'm the only one that seems to have a low opinion of this film though so dont take my word for it. to me the theme song is the only thing it has going for it.

The theme alone is probably better then anything Morricone has ever done for the western genre.

Here's Arizona Colts review which i have to agree with.

BOUNTY KILLER, THE 1966-Boring and redundant early western with Tomas Milian as a villain. Don’t remember much about it other than it allowed me some much needed sleep. In that it was an INSOMNIAC KILLER.

I don't know if the official dvd has the same problem but my dupe sounds muffled so i have to whack up the volume to hear the overdubbing! :(

Similar to Four Of The Apocalypse its only Milian that makes this movie worthwhile.

The sound is clear on the DVD, it's just the movie that's awful.
