Saw it last night AND i really enjoyed it, BROUGHT BACK GOOD MEMORIES. It deviated somewhat from the BBC TV series but none the less was a hoot. Looks like its doing well so we'll probably get a few more ;-)

It certainly looks good, Joe. Going to try and get to see it myself, as I have very fond memories of the old TV version. Not sure when, though, because my lady doesn't fancy the look of it, and (for some reason) I never feel too comfortable going to the cinema on my own. And nights out with friends tend to be big boozy occasions rather than cinema nights!

The books are fantastic, especially the one about the planet Krikket. I never saw the TV series (even though I'm in the UK) and not sure about going to see the film as the I don't want to spoil my own imagery of the books. Mind you, I said that about LOTR.

True thing HS, but however well done I thought the LOTR films were, I still couldn't resist having a good moan about a few "Hollywood-isms", where the story was changed to help the mass appeal. Still, LOTR is the best book ever written, and my grumbles are a small complaint, in the great scheme of things.

Haven't read the books, but I've been looking forward to this film. They started showing the BBC series last week here in Norway. It was fun, but sadly lacking in the visual departement.
As far as comparing it to LOTR, I do believe the film has one great advantage: the humour. In LOTR, the jokes are few, predictable, and unfunny, all coming from the comic sidekicks (Merry and Pippin, anyone?). I found it surprinsing that the man behind Bad Taste could make a film which took itself so serious. Don't get me wrong, I like the films, I just can't understand why people think of these as among the best films ever made. Hitchhiker seems to have a much more lighter tone.
