I've always been interested in this movie (mainly because I'm interested in the real Tom Horn, quite the guy.)

mike siegel is spot on. Steve McQueen gave a great performance in "Tom Horn", all this while he was dying of cancer as you could see in the film. It's one of the under appreciated Steve McQueen performances of his career. I think this and Papillion are up there with Steve's best acting. The film has some great cinematography as you can see in the pictures mike siegel posted. Awesome!

If you're interested in McQueen, and have yet to see this film, do so ASAP.

One of his best performances was in Papillon with Dustin Hoffman escaping from Devil's Island.

It was the performance that he so deserved an award for. His acting was superb and at the time underrrated..

Yup. It's a travesty he didn't at least grab a nomination. That's the politics of Hollywood for you.

Well, I missed this, but I guess I could go to the follow-up screening next Monday (which doesn't have the special guests): http://www.cinemaretro.com/index.php?/archives/3272-CANDICE-BERGEN-AND-STEVE-MCQUEENS-FAMILY-ATTEND-LINCOLN-CENTER-SCREENING-OF-THE-SAND-PEBBLES.html#extended

Cinema Retro reports:

Quote
The Film Society of Lincoln Center's week long tribute to Steve McQueen concluded last night with a big screen showing of Bullitt. Sadly, director Peter Yates, who was scheduled to introduce the film, was sidelined by an illness. However, party-hearty New Yorkers didn't let that interfere with enjoying the cocktail party held in his honor prior to the screening. The print provided was in very good condition and the audience responded with the enthusiasm of seeing the movie for the first time. It did occur to me, however, that given what a cash cow Bullitt has been for Warner Brothers since 1968, that it hasn't merited a full restoration. Let's hope the studio does justice to this film by making this a priority. Kudos to the Film Society for a job well done and an exciting week of superb entertainment.

The emphasis is mine. I had a similar feeling watching the Lincoln Center screening of The Magnificent Seven last weekend. The studios are taking their most ardent fans for granted.

Yeah... could be my favorite McQueen, although his screen time is limited.
Unfortunality Criterion never responds to emails, I offered them to track down
the superb German behind the scenes TV footage... Shame.

That's a shame they didn't respond.

It's not just one of my favorite McQueen films, it's also one of my favorite war films along with Peckinpah's "Cross of Iron". I also have a soft spot for "Where Eagles Dare" too.
