Who are you?

« #30 : January 10, 2005, 07:33:35 AM »

OUATIA but hard to pick between OUATIA and OUATIW. In terms of great artistic brilliance these two are head and shoulders above Leone''s others. In purely entertainment terms GBU is the best and you have to be patient when watching the once upon a times. But aesthetically, stylistically, musically and emotionally Once Upon a Time in America gets my vote as a hugely affecting work of art that manages to steer away from the hollywood melodramatics of that Leone taboo, the godfather. In my mind OUATIA is better. A wonderful 227 minutes of cinema. And the music? Leone has such a debt to Morricone. :o

shit, ive changed my mind since then. Oh well, never mind.  ;D Now i prefer OUATITW.

Hey guys and gals, I'm new to the board after someone recommended this site for Leone fans.

Huge fan of all the movies that Leone made, but OUATITW is my fave.   Perfect casting, great score from Morricone, some of the best dialogue ever, and that final flashback is still haunting no matter how many times I see it.

I look forward to posting here and getting to know everybody.

OUATITW is a bit too long but I like it very much, too. It was the first Leone film I saw on the big screen.

Hi everybody! My first post here. I'm delighted and amazed to find people who believe, like me, that FAFDM is Leone's best. I think OUATITW is more pretentious and dilatated, though it contains memorable scenes. DYS, I'm tempted to prefer it to the former, but it is not as tight as FAFDM and politics in movies of this kind are better left off. So it's between GBU and FAFDM. The former has the best Morricone's tune, the best performance in a Leone's movie (and, who knows, maybe in any western movie at all) more production values. but it also has slow-moving and preposterous scenes (the bridge), the shoot-out in the dead city, half-serious, half not; the too melodramatic beating scene. FAFDM (which has been my favourite since I saw it as a kid in the theatres at least, if I remember well, 3 times) has none of these flaws: the plot is tighter, fast-moving, never boring. It has inconsistencies, but one doesn't notice them because of the rhythm.
OUATIA: one of the dullest movies I ever saw.

FAFDM is really good. I first didn't like it so much because it suffers a bit from a classical movie problem. Both the good and the bad have good chances to decide the battle early but for no explicable reasons don't do so. Now after many seeings I'm more forgiving. I really like Volonté. But GBU is better  ;)

Once Upon A Time In The West is not only Leone's best film (by a small margin) but I feel it is the best film ever made.

between OUATITW and OUATIA for me, ended up picking OUATIA because I think it contains a few of Leone's greatest moments

It will probably be that trilogy with the dollars and that guy wearing the poncho.

I saw Dollars Trilogy and became mad for TGTBTU but after watching FOD in my home theatre with full soundtracks, i became crazy on FOD. The Title tracks which depicts a james bond movie title visuals is such a thing i never saw in any other movies also the heroic entrance of clint at final duel :) watching again and again:) :) :) :) O0 O0 So FOD gets my vote.
