POLTERGEIST
when the spirit hand comes out of the television.
when the mom races towards her daughters room to save her and that weird long legged white thing(with long hair. it reminded me of the jabberwocky in alice in wonderland) in front of the daughters door roars at the mom.
and the freakiest part would have to be when that guy goes to the bathroom and starts to rip off his face!
just writing this makes me want to see that scary mofo again. i think i will buy it today.

Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. Was taken to the theater to see it as a child. Threw up when I got home. To this day, I will not watch it.

I actually just watched Psycho recently for the first time, and was surprised how scary it was. I figured it was old, and wouldn't hold up as a real horror movie, but I was actaully pretty freaked out by it. I couldn't imagine what it was like when it came out in the early 60s. That and The Shining are probably my two favorite horror movies. I'm generally not too big a fan of the genre.

The eerieest flick for me is Carnival of Souls, the only film made by an industrial film maker Herk Harvey its sort of reached a cult status here.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0055830/
I always liked House On Haunted Hill with Vincent Price the sceen where the old woman kind of floats across the floor freaked me out as a kid, lol.
I think the new version was a hoot too Geofry Rush did an over the top job in it, makes me smile every time.

An American Werewolf in London is one of my favorite scary movies (it's actually quite funny at times as well).

The Changeling (

).
I like films that affect you mentally rather than making you jump. This is a classic.

less is more : the unseen horrors of val lewton.
"who the is vall lewton" i hear you ax me.
from '43 to '46 val lewton saved RKO from bankruptcy w/ some great horror films. AND, on a shoestring budget like leone did w/ FoD.
1. cat people
2. i walked w/ a zombie
3. the leopard man
4. the ghost ship ( 43 )
5. bedlem
6. curse of the cat people
7. isle of the dead ( 44 )
8. the body snatcher ( 45 )
mini masterpieces of psychological horror and shadowy
atmosphere. my suggestion is plan a double feature "i walked w/ a zombie" and " land of the dead "
i hope you will include at least one val lewton movie on your halloween playlist. just be warned that this will do for shawdows what hitchcock did for showers, lolÂ

According to Vincent Price, when he and Peter Lorre went to view Bela Lugosi's body during Bela's funeral, Lorre, upon seeing Lugosi dressed in his famous Dracula cape, quipped, "Do you think we should drive a stake through his heart just in case?"
