Yeah Luca Toni was robbed! :(

I'd say you've still got a 50/50 chance of going through and i'm guessing that your game against France  could go all the way to penaltys (assuming Romania lose to the (so far) brilliant Holland) as the goal differences are identical.

If next Wednsdays game is anything like yesterdays football,i can't wait.

Matches should be next tuesday. I hope you're right about the percentage but it's actually nil, as to go to the ko stages we should 1) beat France (and it's not an easy task) 2) Romania should not win against Holland (and that it's gonna be even harder as, presumably, Holland shouldn't run the risk of finding an improved french or italian team in semis. Or, simply, will save his best players a match). So by next wed or a week later Lippi should be back.

Holland might not field their strongest team but i'm sure they'll do their utmost not to lose as  they'll want to retain confidence and momentum for the rest of the competition.

I really think for 2nd place in that group, it's between France and Italy.

Just looked at the current Group C standings

Pld    W    D    L    GF    GA    GD    Pts
Netherlands                             2    2     0    0       7        1       +6          6

Romania                               2       0       2       0         1          1        0      2

Italy                                           2    0    1    1      1       4      −3        1

France                                          2       0         1         1       1    4    −3      1

It's shaping up to be an explosive finale between France and Italy because with Romania's goal difference neither can afford to draw in case Romania manage to hold Holland level.

Of course. But it's gonna be wasted energies for both anyway. The betting agencies have no illusiions on this.

He must say a good thanx to Van Basten. Now this is becoming very interesting because now we can get to the end. Italy has always had troubles in the first round of tournaments, expecially the european championship because you meet much better teams than at the WC. Donadoni, though, with his unexplainable choices in the first match did his best to bring us all back home tomorrow. But now he seems to have understood a few, easy facts: 1) De Rossi is the best midfielder Italy has (actually he would make starting team in ANY team. This everybody seemed to know but him) 2) Once Cannavaro was out it was absurd to have central defense with Materazzi and Barzagli, who didn't make a great year and need a lead. Donadoni at last realized that Panucci and Chiellini is the best he can have now. 3) Cassano can't be left out.
This is was most critics and fans were saying BEFORE the match with Holland. How he did arrive at those incredible decisions is a mystery but to him. But now that he realized the mistakes he made, he had the great luck to be given a second chance. And Italy becomes, in my book, the favourite team for the final victory unless Donadoni wants to try to play genius again.  If we beat Spain (far from impossible as I wasn't impressed by that team which seems to play a little too slowly) we could have the rare chance of playing again that damned first game.
A pity Pirlo (and Gattuso) won't be able to play against Spain. But the way the team has started to carburate, wnybody who gets in makes no diference.

Very possibly so and one only needs to remember Italys slow start in Spain 1982.Its all about peaking at the right time and i feel that Italy are due one or two exceptional performances.Holland have undoubtably been the strongest team so far but how long can they sustain playing at such a high level as in the past they have a tendency to falter in the later stages following a promising start?
