Agua Caliente (Los Albaricoques) Then & Now

After watching the Agua Caliente portion of the film again I have this to report: once Mortimer cracks the safe, Indio makes a comment that all the men in New Mexico will now be after them. Why New Mexico? The bank job was in El Paso, Texas.  Wouldn't he be worried about Texans from El Paso chasing them, especially if they were still in Texas or near the Texas border? Presumably, then, Indio and the gang have returned to New Mexico, where the events of the earlier part of the movie took place.

BTW, I note that the current German dub has Indio saying that every man in Mexico will be after them. I can't quite make out whether Indio says Mexico or New Mexico in the Italian dub (titoli?), but he clearly says New Mexico in the English one. It makes a big difference to our understanding of things if the gang ends up in Mexico rather than New Mexico at the end, don't you think?

I think the Mexico dub on the German version is just a careless translation.

As for the New Mexico comment, that's a very good point. They robbed the bank in Texas...so the Texans should be after them.

But the alarm was also for the bank in Santa Cruiz NM too wasn't it?

Well, it was for "Santa Cruz," but Santa Cruz NM is about 400 miles north of El Paso (if I've eyeballed the map correctly). No way could Monco go back and forth between El Paso and Santa Cruz as quickly as he does if we're talking about Santa Cruz, NM (Santa Cruz, TX is even further away). It's got to be a U.S. city, though.

The question remains: how does Indio go east from El Paso and end up in New Mexico (if that is in fact what happens)?

Well I think the closest possible town is Las Cruces (The Crosses) which would make more sence and would be doable fro the robbery, perhaps Santa Cruz was reffered to Santa Las Cruces its a stretch I know  .

And I don't think they end up in New Mexico but Mexico, so they go Southeast along the Rio Grande, makes more sence.

Ah, so instead of going due south and crossing the border, the "east" route (which in fact is southeast) allows them to stay in the U.S. for a while before heading into Mexico. Okay, that does make sense.

Why does Indio care about all the men from New Mexico chasing them? You don't think SL got confused about where El Paso is, do you?

Well the valley of the Rio Grande north of El Paso could be El Paso's subburbs so to speak, where most of the population that Banks in El Paso lives, its a stretch too.
