Has anybody wondered if we can see our favorite westerns (spaghetti or otherwise) in the same way with the advent of Brokeback Mountain?
Those long and lonely nights on the range and those buddy films:
Harmonica and Cheyenne, John and Juan, Blondie and Tuco... I wonder ::)

The western will return. Everything in life works in cycles, but the western has lost 100% of it's respect from people my age because of Brokeback Mountain which IS NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT a western!!!!   >:(   >:(   >:(

If you are talking about male bonding on a mental level in westerns, you can see it in films like "Duck You Sucker", " Warlock", "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "The Wild Bunch" to name a few.

Yes, but those are strong friendships between males, not relationships!!!

got there before I did Peacemaker. Yeah the original poster is looking for Gay couples in a jokey way. Take any western and think about how it would be like if the two main characters were gay...
I think thats what there going for anyway...

Its in the same vein as the spoof clips they did at the Academy Awards.

We need some new  hard hitting, money making, Euro Western to shake things up.

The Proposition wasn't bad, could've been better tho.

It's come up before here, but Red River has some sexual undertones with Matt Garth (Montgomery Clift) and Cherry Valance (John Ireland).  That scene where they compare guns is probably the most obvious.  Still a good movie though, if Hawkes had just taken out Joanne Dru who really ruins the ending.

As for Brokeback Mountain, I'm agreeing with Peacemaker.  I just don't see it as a western.

Sorry to disagree, but Brokeback Mountain, the film and the short story upon which it was based, is a western.  It may be more in the mold of "story of the American West" than of a traditional type, but it's still a western.

I would suggest that you find a copy of Still Wild : Short Fiction of the American West 1950 to the Present, an anthology edited by Larry McMurtry (and in which Annie Proulx's "Brokeback Mountain" appears) to see just how the story fits in the genre as a whole.
