At 15 feet with a Collins machete and some practice you can stick one pretty good in a rotten stump  ;D

I'm always amazed at how, in TV and cinema, blades seem to easily bypass the ribs in a vertical fashion and penetrate up to the hilt as if no ribcage were there.
In real life it would seem much more practical to stab or throw with the blade in the horizontal position to slip between the ribs.
Guess I just think on the details way too much.

I always wondered how in the movies they sometimes stab a person through the chest even though there's the bone protecting the chest ( forgot it's name ).

rib cage Peace. Sackett mentioned this already.

would it really be impossible for the blade to slice through the bones? how tough can bones really be?

At least Joe didn't say "Stick around!" after throwing it at the guy. hehe!

I've never really taken time to think about the reality of the machete throw.  I just let up a small (interior) cheer when Joe waxes the bad guys and then move on.  Which is probably best for this sort of movie.  :)

No no. The Sternum. The bone in the middle of the rib cage. It protects the heart.
