OK Guys..thinking caps on....How did the three bandits in the opening desert scene happen to know TUCO would come galloping across the desert just at that particular time and place. They even had the wanted Poster to hand.....AND....How the hell did Blondie Know they were after him and happen to be right behind them....Its always puzzled me.

Ever notice these Coincidences that always seem to occur examples are...

1.Angel Eyes just happens to be accidentally told of the gold by Stephens.
2.The meeting above with Tuco,Blondie and the three bounty hunters
3 Angel Eyes in town when they are hanging TUCO
4.The Bomb blowing up the Hotel
5 The Carriage of the Spirits in the Desert
6 Only Carson is still alive
7 Meeting Angel Eyes in the Camp
8 The One armed man in the deserted town just as TUCO arrives
9. The bomb exploding just as AE's men are about to shoot Tuco in the back in the town
9. The Canon next to the chapel just happens to be pointing at TUCO as he rides off and aiming at the right distance

10    AND....the most obvious of all.....TUCO finding the Grave of AS exactly at the same time as the Ecstacy of gold music  finishes...never been able to work that one out..

bet there's more as well...

All of those coincidences are suppose to add to the film's mythic quality.

Well Ice, unless you thought Tuco or Angel Eyes had a boom box in the graveyard. . .  ::)

5 The Carriage of the Spirits in the Desert

That is one of my favorite scenes because we don't know what happened to the hospital wagon.  What happened to the drivers?  Was it ambushed and the horses just continued to run?  There's a very other-worldly feel to that scene.

Kinda reminds me of something you'd see in a Lean movie.  A lone wagon flying across the desert with Ennio's score playing, my second favorite track after Ecstacy.

I always wondered how after being left dead Ramon could borrow a new lease on life under the name of El Indio.

The ambush scene is not in the original script (unless I have a few pages missing), and it may not have been given so much thought as the other scenes. Nevertheless, I don't see a problem since when people travel from A to B, whether via a forest or desert, they tend to use an established track - the equivalent of today's motorway. The bandits may have known that Tuco passed by now and again and waited it out. In the long run, an easy way to earn a lot of money.  In that scene, they weren't in a vast sandy landscape but as you pointed out here are certainly many many coincidences in the film.

Angel Eyes was in the camp because he was told (in one of the newly added scenes) that that's where the Yankees would probably take Bill Carson had he been captured. If I remember correctly. And I probably don't.

Stephens was under pressure from Angel Eyes and it's no wonder that he goes on about everything he thinks can save him.

If Carson hadn't been alive we wouldn't have had a movie.

The canon control is part of Blondie's cool. He knows when it's the right moment to light the fuse.

Anyway - movies are like that...

Are you ready for another one of my "evil twin" solutions? The only problem: which is the evil one, Ramon or El Indio?
