Resemblence to Tony Montana?

Am I the only person that sees the simlarities between Juan Miranda and Scarface's Tony Montana?

They both have simalar bad accents, curse, and are obnoxious. Only Juan is the more in depth character, but both have simaler political ideals.

Also, Juan stabs the guard on the train very simalar to how Tony Montana stabs the Cuban in the camp in the beginning.
Both films end with each character picking up a machine gun, which is another huge coincidence.

Anyone think DePalma was taking advantage of the film's obscurity? He is a known rip off artist afterall.

The only similarities I saw between Juan and Scarface were their accents ( they sound very similar ).

I thought they were simaler in persona aswell, such as being greedy, and wanting bigger scores.=, i.e. ambitious

Juan had a family, and a good friend, so there is a difference after Juan has his eyes opened after the killing of his family.

The persona thing is merely coincidental. The voice, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be.

I think the accent is coincidental. It's not like Oliver Stone and DePalma are creative forces. All those movie brats were Leone fans after all. From Scorsese to Spielberg, they seem to share common interests and influences.

Edit: The attidude is also almost identical. Juan also has  taste in expensive women(the landowner's wife in the beginning), and luxury(Juan made the stagecoach his family's home).
