One interesting fact that I discovered while researching the historical timeline & back story for the Good The Bad and The Ugly was the fact that all the cavalry (mounted rifle companies) all the scouts and dispatch riders, all the stagecoach teams, pretty much everyone who was traveling around the Southwest back in the 1840-1860's era was using mules and not horses. The mules were much more dependable and hardier than horses and could be rode farther and harder than them.
Just one more example of Sergio's extensive research for these movies. I've read during GBU he kept Civil War books on hand while filming. Good find, joe!
