I think the best trailer I ever saw was for David Lynch's WILD AT HEART. The film looked incredible, and as it was his next production after the groundbreaking BLUE VELVET, heralded a greatly anticipated, would be event. Sadly the actual film itself was bloody awful rubbish when it turned up. Reader, I hated it. The trailer though was a masterpice of sound and picture editing.

I have a very soft spot for the origional release BETTY BLUE trailer. Takes me back to a rather particular time and special place, though you'de have to pay me good money these days to sit down and watch the movie.

Don't know if it's my favorite, but since I just watched the movie today I think the trailer for "The Wind and the Lion" is awesome - there's no voice-over/narration (well, there was in the original trailer, not on the DVD's version), it's very rapidly cut with the film's action scenes/dialogue well-integrated together. I love how they integrate various clips from the Marine attack on Tangier throughout the trailer, building suspense as it goes along. For a trailer made in 1975 it comes across as remarkably modern.

The original trailer for Vera Cruz is a dandy...& a good example of the old style Hollywood  previews.

Hmmm. I've just remembered a kind of reverse to this topic. One of the worst trailers I ever saw was for THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, first seen in a movie theatre in New York in 1994. What really bugged me about it was that it "stole" it's music from the Cohen's MILLER'S CROSSING, a film I admire enormously. I guess the trailer was edited before Thomas Newman's beautiful score was finished, but this didn't occur to me at the time.

The trailer put me off watching the film for years! When I did reluctantly sit and watch it one night I was obviously utterly hooked, and it remains a fave recent (kind of) Hollywood slice of entertainment. The people who put together that trailer though were complete idiots. They succeded in making the film look like some dumb action movie, and in retrospect, they even gave away the mega spoiler that Robbin's does escape.  :-X

I met Gabriel Byrne a few years back.

VERY friendly man. He voluntarily gave me his autograph.    O0

I saw that through MST3K - it was pretty awful, and in their hands pretty hilarious.
