Rate the Last CD You Listened To

I see we have a "last book you read" and "Last movie you saw" thread, so I thought "What the hell."


Anyway, the last one I listened to was Roger the Engineer by The Yardbirds.  I thought i'd seek it out when I realized I'd heard little or none of Jeff Beck's guitar playing.  I really really like about two thirds of the songs on the album.  But there's three or four that I dislike.  Jeff Beck is a great blues rock guitarist, and I'd like to hear more of his stuff, because I hear he branched out into all kinds of genres including Jazz Fusion.  Anyway, i would give this cd a seven out of ten, except for the fact that the reissued version includes the songs "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago" and "Psycho Dasies" which were originally released as the A and B sides of a single.  Those two songs alone (but ESPECIALLY Happenings Ten Years Time Ago) can raise this cd to an 8/10.

Another one I heard recently was "Happy Trails" by The Quicksilver Messenger service.  Great Jam Band and a cd I will bring along next time I have to go on a long car trip. 9/10

Jeff Beck is my number one favorite guitar player, an amazing musician. If you like the raw 60's blues rocking and virtuoso work of guys like Page, Clapton, and Hendrix, you should check out his first album Truth, which even has John Paul Jones, Ron Wood, Keith Moon, and Jimmy Page. Not on every song, by the way. Rod Stewart is the singer, though In fact I was thinking of putting it on today. Will do right now The production and tone on that album is really raw and grindy sounding, I love it. I listened to his second album, Beck-Ola, maybe three times in all, I really didn't care for it. The version I have has really crappy mixing, too. It makes one think "Which instrument is the one that's buried in the background?" All of them are, somehow
Some think of Truth as the 'prototype' for Zeppelin's style and the first Zep album, and personally I prefer this album to the first Zep one.

His jazz fusion stuff is my favorite. The essential album is Blow by Blow, but Wired and There & Back are, in my opinion, on the same level. You should get all three of them if you love his guitar work.

Children Of Bodom - Something Wild 8.5/10
Good speed, riffs and solos. I've listened this three times through in 24 hours and it gets better every time. Very much worth the four euros it cost. If you're into thrash metal, highly recommended    .

I was listening to different Miranda Martino songs, among which the Morricone arranged "Meglio stasera" from The Pink Panther: a definitely better version than the movie's. This is Miranda Martino: great singer.
