Wow, thank you Peacemaker, and especially, LeoneNut, whoever he may be. Why, why, why can't this be included in all current versions of the film?

I can't understand.... it's not so brutal as the beating scenes in FOD and GBU...

Looking at the clip again, and reading LeoneNut's comments, it is clear that he has assembled his "cut" from different sources. There are some shots you can only get, apparently, from the Italian print, but LeoneNut claims that version isn't in true 'scope! Could that be the reason we can't get the full beating scene on our DVDs, because there is no source that has it complete in the correct aspect ratio?

The non-scope shots are from one certain Italian DVD which was released years ago and has long been out of print. In fact I think I don't think I have ever even seen its cover anywhere. As far as I know it contains the full beating scene plus the two other pieces that are cut on all other discs (Clint approaching the saloon and Indio laughing longer). But as mentioned, it's not full 2.35:1, I think it's closer to 2.00:1 or something.
I just don't know why a print would exist in such ratio, so maybe the company who released the disc cropped it for the DVD release (I doubt it, but that has been done several times for newer films recently because widescreen tvs aren't 2.35:1... >:( )?

There is a newer Italian disc in 2.35:1 but it has all the same cuts as the MGM discs. I'm hoping the new special edition that has been restored by Sky TV will finally have the full film (not sure if it will be in English, but none of the missing parts really require English track).

It could be the scenes doesn't exist in scope anymore (well at least in the prints the companies know about), but I wouldn't expect MGM to bother searching for it either... :P And when it comes to the German company... well, apprently they trusted the 'Nobody 2' print to be complete because they were told it was... (just watching the UK disc once would have proved the print wasn't complete but....). I would except the same with FAFDM, although I can barely remember reading something in German saying they had some of the missing scenes but in so bad shape they decided not to use them (AND DIDN'T INCLUDE THEM AS EXTRAS?!?). But I used babelfish to translate so... ;D

Just remembered something... :P I have the two other missing pieces in 2.35:1 aspect ratio from some recent TV broadcast in Germany. So at least those exist. The quality looks very good, but my files are unfortunately just very small resolution avis. Beating scene I think is cut in that version.

But http://www.ofdb.de/view.php?page=film&fid=881 claims the film was shown completely uncut and in 2.35:1 in France in 2004.

The laughter of Indio and his merry gang is the key to this great scene. Brilliant.

After watching this brilliant scene again I remembered that Manco's karate skills are once again used here (the kick). Only other time I can think of is near the beginning when he's giving Red a well deserved beating.

How does Clint keep his hair so together, as he is getting his ass kicked?!?!?

I guess you've just gotta be cool as f*ck.....
Clint even looks cool when he's getting his ass kicked!

Back to the point of the thread, I always  remembered the deranged Indio laugh and the (full) beating scene from when I first saw the film over 20 years ago. Those kind of things stay with you don't they.
When years later the 3 films came out on vhs in widescreen (mid to late 90's?) I was gutted to see these scenes cut down. I hate things being cut. Anyway by this stage I had already given a previous 'full screen' copy that was otherwise complete to a mate..........
Stupid me for thinking that the DVD wouldn't be cut..... I guess there is perhaps a genuine reason though in this case for the beating scene? Still annoying

Not much to add but that's my two pennies worth

there's a torrent on www.mininova.org right now that is for the italian version of the film - not the best quality, it looks like it was pulled from an old laserdisc or something (unrestored-which is actually cool), but it's widescreen and for me it fixes a lot of the weird cuts/sync that are in the current us version...I always remembered in the entrance of Clint in the film that when he looks up after lighting his cigar there's a thunder crash on the soundtrack, and then he walks out of frame (not in any current us version- only on my old pan and scan vhs version-and even his walk out is shorter in that) - well that's how it is in the italian cut and in my opinion that's how it should always be....

this version also has the extended indio laugh, the full beating scene etc....of course it's in italian, but I know the film so well I can watch it anyways....recommend downloading it and watching it...it was a refreshing experience...

(also downloaded ff from the same source - looks like an older unrestored copy as well, haven't had the chance to watch it yet..

http://www.mininova.org/tor/560158

There's the link, and no I don't feel guilty about "stealing" the movie as I've purchased 5 different copies of the film over the years and if they would just fix the us versions I'd be a happy guy....

Does anyone have any more info on this DVD? Was it released by CVC? I downloaded the torrent of this unusual Italian release and it is indeed 2.00:1 and includes the full beating scene and the 2 longer scenes already mentioned.

Indio's laugh is definitely disturbing to say the least. Do we think that the same actor that dubbed his voice did the laugh or could they somehow have kept Volonte's?

Edit; I mean the actor that dubbed the English version
