This one didn't make anything for me, it's the kind of cheesy stuff Morricone is often on the verge to, sorry.

please give it another try later. it is an excellent tune.

morricone's score for the giallo WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO SOLANGE. this must be one of his best compositions and arrangements. EDDA DELL'ORSO in top form here.

morricone's score for COPKILLER (not the one you have heard in the greatest hits). this is a better tune. this is sensational for a title score. please listen to it many times before commenting or i will be very upset :). the trumpets, pianos and one other instrument over the continuous bass drone is amazing. the film starring harvey keitel and johnny rotten is also quite interesting.

morricone's score for elio petri's WORKING CLASS GOES TO HEAVEN. please listen to the whole album, there are many variations which are better than the one in the greatest hits. it is a very punk score. strongly recommend the film too. GIAN MARIA VOLANTE was sensational.

morricone's epic sweeping score for LA SCONOSCIUTA. the score is comparable to CINEMA PARADISO. both films directed by TORANTORE.

morricone's melodious score for L'IMMORALITA. love the simple piano at the beginning before EDDA kicks in. the film is a highly provocative thriller about a pedophile on the run. half recommend it.

the title score for LE CASSE (a wonderful luxurious and opulent big budget thriller which i strongly recommend though it flags in the second half). ASTRUD GILBERTO's voice is perfect for this. recommend the whole score. it has many good tunes. i present two tunes from this score. if you dont like them, then i dont know what to say to you  :P.

Morricone has scored every Tornatore film apart from his very first one. Every single score has been absolutely incredible. After Leone, Tornatore has definitely been the recipient of most of Morricone's best work and, since Tornatore's made more films than Leone ever did, more of it.

novocento, MORRICONE also collaborated frequently with ELIO PETRI. they did some great work together.

but you could be right about Tornatore.

There's a nice list here of his collaborations with directors:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ennio_Morricone#Selected_long-time_collaborations_with_directors

What's amazing about the Tornatore collaborations is simply how good they are. Some directors like Leone and Tornatore really seem to have consistently received the very best of Morricone.

What's amazing about the Tornatore collaborations is simply how good they are. Some directors like Leone and Tornatore really seem to have consistently received the very best of Morricone.

There are several "kinds" of Morricone. The three main ones, to me are:

1 - The music he does for Tornatore is Morricone at his most "regular". The tunes are romantic and often powerful, the arrangements are utterly traditional: this is regular orchestral music. That's the stuff he does kind of effortlessly I think since he's often turning to these kinds of compositions even for others (The Professional, 1900...). Some of these musics are corny and some of these are great, for some reason Tornatore got most of the best ones.

2 - The more dated stuff that was experimental at the time and was influenced by concrete music, with a variable amount of lyricism. They were used in thrillers, horror films and cops/robbers stories, often by European directors.

3 - The Battle of Algier kind of Morricone, that I wouldn't know how to describe.

Depending on the movie, Leone got pieces from the three kinds of Morricone, usually great ones. In OUATITW and DYS, he got a mix of the three, and that's when I find Ennio's work absolutely powerful. The only thing that Leone didn't get is the Morricone from the 80's-90's Hollywood stuff (Frantic, Disclosure...), which is cool because it usually sucks.

Just learned about this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwdlRf4Tg10&list=PLDmdF1ma6cZp8aLqCTKvUA4w3ogHJs5XM

Reportedly, that's Ennio himself on trumpet.

My favorites titles are My name is Nobody ( ;)), "GBU" and Navajo Joe. But i like them all !

"Ennio", a documentary on Morricone by giuseppe tornatore, with interviews, music and musical extracts from films, has just been released in theaters! (at least in France, I don't know what it is for other countries.) it lookk like very interesting !
