Quote
He liked the cite the number of historical figures he had portrayed:

Andrew Jackson ("The President's Lady," "The Buccaneer"), Moses ("The Ten Commandments"), title role of "El Cid," John the Baptist ("The Greatest Story Ever Told"), Michelangelo ("The Agony and the Ecstasy"), General Gordon ("Khartoum"), Marc Antony ("Julius Caesar," "Antony and Cleopatra"), Cardinal Richelieu ("The Three Musketeers"), Henry VIII ("The Prince and the Pauper").

We have no one now who could credibly interpret all those roles. An age has ended. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Fuck Michael Moore!

Seriously, the Chuck held himself so fucking well during that ambush-interview, even though I wanted him to drop kick that fucker's face in, he was an uber-professional about it.

Planet of the Apes is one of my favorite flicks of that era, and in everything else he did he was such a great actor. Though, as sad as it is when we lose people, it's nice to know, once they get to their mid-80's, that they probably lived to the fullest and had great lives. Farewell, Chuck!

Let's not be forgetting Major Dundee, Jenkins. Or Planet of the Apes. My two favorite roles of his.

Taylor in PotA is an "historical figure"? Oh, OK, Groggy, if you say so.

I've seen him only in Ben Hur and apparently in True Lies even though I can't remember him in that one.

Well, Major, I shall see you in Texas!

So many of the greats are moving on.  I've gotten to the point I worry about going to IMDB to see the updates on their main page for who has passed on.  Politics and beliefs on gun control aside, Heston was the man.  He'll be missed.  Like Groggy, Major Dundee is my personal favorite of Heston's so I might have to watch it today.  Major Dundee and Captain Tyreen both gone, it's a sad day. :'(

He was definitely one of the great movie stars of all time. Let's not forget Touch of Evil. Not convincing as a Mexican at all, but still a strong performance.

You know what? I'm not going to change my signature ever again. Last time I did, Paul Scofield died the next day. Now this... :'(

I might watch Major Dundee today. If not, I'll find something I haven't seen. Still haven't seen Ben-Hur the whole way through.

Fast forward to the chariot race ;)

His political beliefs were interesting: (I actually just informed myself of this) earlier in his life he spoke against racism and the Vietnam War ( O0) but later (this is all I knew earlier) he was the President of the National Rifle Association and turned into a Republican ( :'(). Strange but interesting. His political beliefs don't have anything to do with his acting career, though.

Can't remember. Though, I saw the movie before I had any idea who Charlton Heston was.

Heston was always pro-gun, he just became more conservative on other issues over the years. IIRC he was an annual speaker at the NAACP for many years into the '80s and even the '90s. I think the charges of him being racist are RIDICULOUS.
