This is a sad day. Charlton Heston is one of the greatest American actors we will ever see. His films are timeless. He is a great American who will be surely missed. Rest in peace, Chuck! :'(

One can only tremble whilst imagining who might be next... :o I won't even name names.

I guess 2008 is making up for the relatively slow year of 2007. Relatively few A-list actors and directors died (note the wording before you dispute it). This year, we're only in April and the list is unbearably long. :'(

Just got done watching Soylent Green. It far exceeded my expectations and I'd be so bold as to not only give it an 8/10, but even say that *GASP!* I prefered to Blade Runner. :o I may still watch Dundee tonight - with the original score, of course. O0

Groggy, O'Reilly just did a tribute to Heston, with one clip each from 10 C, BH, MD, Earthquake, El Cid, PotA, and 10 C (again). Then Vince Van Patton, a friend who also appeared in Soylent Green, made some remarks (under which a clip from SG played). I was impressed that they used the clips from Major Dundee and El Cid; most MSM reports wouldn't have bothered.

I just watched the O'Reilly tribute myself. It was a great farewell to the man.

Cool. I'll keep an eye out on YouTube to see if this goes on the Internet.

TCM making some changes to accomidate Heston's recent passing.

is it me or is anyone else itching to know how he died? i know it probably isn't much of a secret considering his age and alzheimers, but it would still be helpful to see something in print.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing! Maybe now I'll finally get to see Ben-Hur (albeit on a tiny screen). O0

As said of another character in his best ever film, "He was some kind of a man". The land of the true Giants will be devoid of all life soon at this rate.

Don't agree with any of his views in the BFC interview but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that Moore wattled into his house and provoked such embarassing statements.

R.I.P Chuck.

It was only a matter of time.

Hopefully 2008 doesn't claim Wallach.

:(  RIP.  It definitely seems like the end of an era.  Seems he has always been there....even since he retreated from public life.  Whatever your thoughts on the film, it's amazing that The Ten Commandments continues to be shown on one of the major networks in primetime annually.  The only other film that currently would share that experience is It's A Wonderful Life....unlike TTC that wasn't always so.  When I was a kid to see Ben Hur, The Planet Of The Apes , TTC, and The Omega Man on television, was a big deal.
