Spectre - I don't get why everybody was disappointed, it's more or less like Skyfall although the humor and the action sequences are better done 6/10

Yes the action is better, and the film is generally slightly better than Skyfall. But it suffers from the same problems: Mendes does not really feel the film, and he can't decide if he wants to make a progressive Bond or a very traditional one. So he ends with several good scenes, but as a whole it remains undecided. Both halves of the films demand a different second half. But the different halves are scattered over the whole movie.

Not Spectre was underrated, Skyfall was strangely overrated.

If I go higher on The Big Short that puts half of Marty's filmography over 10/10. Also, if they had made this film in 1995, I would have found most of their storytelling tricks inventive. In 2015 it's way too cliché for such a in your face style. Also, the style isn't mastered/precise at all.



Deadpool could have been higher if they had bothered writing a second draft of the script.

You didn't get Steve Jobs. I'm still looking for a film with more intelligent dialogues and I don't think it exists.

I thought I was pretty generous with Creed. It's still a bad film nobody will ever mention or even vaguely remember 2 years from now. I'll keep the motorcycle scene, 2 fights and the female lead.

hah, well to be fair, most of my "highers and lowers" are only by maybe 0.5. Steve Jobs was by far one of last years best movies at an 8 or something. I thought the "emotional" parts were weak but that's usually what you get with sorkin.

Trumbo was dull as can be but a harmless film. Bryan Cranston adds many points, and Louis CK is a gemius close to PTA level of appreciation for me (for his writing and soon directing). Once people start seeing his dramatic work they'll  understand this. So even though he's not a great actor his presence makes me like trumbo more.

I completely agree on big short I'd just rate it a 7. Liked the cast a lot.

Creed is where I disagree the strongest. I'm biased because I love every rocky movie. Even 5. I thought Stallone was excellent and his relationship with the lead was extremely well done. It's one of the 2 or 3 movies last year I'd consider worth owning on blu.

I 100% understand why you think it's ridiculous. In a way, I even agree, It really comes out of nowhere. But what can I say, when I watched it, it just worked. It's a poetic scene I didn't expect, it's one of the very very few surprises of the film and I was moved. I may hate it the next time I'll watch the movie except, well, I'll probably never watch it again.

Ok so we actually agree on everything.
About Creed: it's just that the main guy is terrible. It spoils everything, especially on such a simple/traditional movie. It's like doing The Wrestler but with Tom Hanks (or Orlando Bloom) and making him have no problem with alcool or anything, having good relationships with everyone and being overall quite smart.

Peter Finch plays an itinerant worker in rural Australia. He can't stay in one place for long, he wanders about looking for work, occasionally comes home to his wife. In the opening scene, he wanders in to his apartment after one of his extended stays on the road, and his frustrated wife is shtupping another guy. So Finch walks out on her ... but not before grabbing his young daughter. Not that his wife cares; she's happy to be rid of the little girl. So Finch and his little daughter go on the road, from odd job to odd job.

This movie is enjoyable, Finch is always good and the young girl, played by Dana Wilson, is good.

But the movie is so immoral - it basically justifies taking a young girl and living on the road like a bum, ya know, forget about her needing a mother or a decent home; yeah, the guy can use the daughter as a pawn in a fight with his wife, or rather, since the guy hates his wife he can keep the daughter for himself and make her live like a bum, nothing wrong, right?

By the end of the movie, we do get the feeling that Finch has found a girl he loves and will maybe settle down and make a decent home ... but honestly – not that this is intended as a message movie – so damn immoral. But yeah, a decent watch.

Wikipedia and IMDB call this a drama, but it is a very lighthearted drama. And a creepy one.

Charles Laughton is an Australian soldier in WWI. After the war, he takes two young war orphans, a brother and a sister, from an orphanage in Belgium, and brings them home with him to Australia and raises them as his own kids. Just before he leaves Belgium, we find out that – unbeknownst to Laughton or the little boy and girl – they really are not blood siblings; they were really only step-siblings before their stepfather died in the war. The movie is sure to make us aware of this, so we figure out exactly what is gonna happen – the little brother and sister are gonna fall in love, and at the end find out that hey, they really aren't blood relatives, so they can go off and be step-incestuous and make step-incestuous babies and live step-incestuously happily ever after. Yuck.

And that's exactly what happens. Laughton takes them back to Australia, blah blah blah, eventually WWII starts, the boy loves, and I mean LOVES, his sister, and he goes to Belgium as a soldier, and finds out his sister is not his sister. Creeps.

Yes, as I said, this is a pretty lighthearted movie. Laughton is always fun to watch. It's a decent watch, with a very creepy plot.
