Ok, so here is the sad truth: I have spend far too much time on the board today while becoming more and more late for my work. So it's time to go back to work. But I'll be back and explain you why you're so wrong but Shannon is still even greater than you're wrong. WHile waiting you can watch the movie with the commentary track, it's among the most best commentaries I have ever listened. And I have listened like 10 of them so I know.

Well I don't have the DVD so I can't listen to the CT. However, as usual I believe all of your bold claims, and that be said I can't wait for tomorrow.

Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007) - 7/10

In the end I didn't care for it at all, although the start was promising. It's still a good movie, don't get me wrong, not bad by any means, it just doesn't live up to its hype. I think it must be all the drama they injected in it, that I thought it didn't need. Especially the part about the parents and their unequal love for the two brothers, I thought that came right out of the blue, I didn't think it was Sidney Lumet's way of working (a priori to this movie)... Now, something else bothers me: usually I like PSH's performances, but here he annoyed me almost as much as EH, and on the top of that the sexy-yet-mostly-figured out MT pulls out her usual antics. AF okay, he too didn't convince me, but that might be cause of its co-stars. MS the best of them all IMVHO.

I saw this movie like 4 years ago, yet you expect me to remember each of the actors just by using initials? You lazy, lazy bum.    I got Hoffman, Hawke, and Tomei, that's all. And out of principle, I refuse to go to IMDB to check the cast list.

Haha. I initially planned to write only PSH's name using initials, but then felt that what's good for one must be good for all.

NOW, VOYAGER 4/10....... This is supposed to be some sort of classic? God Almighty, what an excruciating piece of shit.... The shtick Paul Henreid does with the cigarettes - as legendary as it has become - was overkilled by Henreid doing it four times; it would have been much better if he had just done it once at the beginning and then once again in that last scene..... The only nice thing I can say about this movie is that it's always fun to watch Claude Rains. Otherwise, this is one movie that had me tearing my hair out waiting for it to end; I only stuck with it all the way through cuz it has become so famous, I sorta just had to see what the fuss was all about. (of course, I knew the famous last line long before I saw the movie, but.I was in such a miserable state by the end, it wouldn't have changed a thing

THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR (1968) 8/10.... McQueen is always good, although this character is probably not the best one for him; he is playing the rich guy living (and laughing) it up; I think the action roles suit him more. But he is always fun to watch. Dunaway was born to play sexy bad girl (or at least "not very good girl") roles like this..... Of course this movie requires lots of suspension of disbelief. But there is one thing that just went waaaaay too far: Dunaway knows there were five guys and five entrances. Fine. But somehow from that she deduces that there must have been a mastermind that hired 5 separate guys who never saw each other etc. exactly as it happened. That is absolutely ludicrous. There isn't the slightest shred of evidence she has any reason to believe that, and as soon as that happens, I roll my eyes. This is so far beyond even the most extreme level of suspension of disbelief. That is the one thing about the story that bothered me (and it wasn't even required for the story; it was probably just contrived as a way of trying to show us how bloody brilliant Dunaway's character is. So brilliant she has like friggin ESP. That's my one problem with the script.... And I had a MAJOR problem with the way the movie uses that split screen ad nauseum. It is a useful tool when used in specific moments to show us several things happening simultaneously, since this caper requires careful coordination. But then it's like Norman Jewison decided he was having so much fun with it, why not just use it at a bunch of random times when it is completely unnecessary to show us the story developing, but it is a great way of being irritating.... Nevertheless, this is a fun movie. :-)

The Counselor - Ridley Scott

Is Scott a filmmaker or a director? At least I can easily imagine nearly every film directed Scott to be better if done by another director. Scott is far from being a bad director, in fact The Counselor is well directed, but it still feels wrong for me too often.
The philosophical dialogues sound pretentious at first, but after a while, when everybody talks that way, it's maybe a quality. Which I will decide when I watch it again. 7/10 with improvement prospects

The Wolf of Wall Street - 8/10 - Most of the film is Scorsese at his best: great style, intense depiction of debauched criminals, some really sharp dialogue and great music choices. Great job in scenes like the Quaalude freak-out and yacht storm scene being so heinous it's funny. Besides the length, my main beef is that the characters feel shallow compared to the protagonists in Marty's gangster epics (especially the women; Naomi is no Karen Hill). Nonetheless, DiCaprio gives easily his best performance. I'm typically underwhelmed by Leo but for once he disappears into a character. Jonah Hill is fine, though I suspect it will be awhile before his mere appearance stops drawing laughter. And Matthew McConoughey, when did he become a good actor?

Justine (1969) – 7/10. In ‘30s Alexandria, an English schoolteacher (Michael York) gets entangled with Coptic gunrunners. Actually, this part of the plot takes time to emerge, the first part of the movie is how Justine (Anouk Aimee) takes up the schoolteacher as a kind of toyboy. Meanwhile, he meets an all-star cast of local inhabitants. Anna Karina plays a Greek dancing girl who’s sweet on him. John Vernon (!), Robert Forster (!), Michael Constantine (!), and even, for one scene, Michael Dunn (1/2 !) play Egyptians (!!!). Foreign diplomats are represented by Dirk Bogarde, Phillippe Noiret, George Baker, Marcel Dalio. Jack Albertson is “Cohen.” They spent so much on the talent that there wasn’t enough left in the budget for decent sets, apparently, but the occasional location shots look good. An adaptation of Laurence Durrell’s Alexandria Quartet, the film draws mainly from the first book but interpolates some of the material from the rest of the set. Trying to get all that plot into a 2-hour movie was an impossible task (today they’d do this as a TV series), and the whole thing has a kind of cut-and-paste feel (with bad Michael York voice-overs as the paste). Still, the film has its compensations: Anouk Aimee cavorting naked in the surf, Phillippe Noiret in drag, occasional witticisms (best delivered by Bogarde, of course).

La Pointe Courte (1955) 6.5/10

I found the entire storyline involving the couple to be awfully annoying: the actor and actress are annoying, the dialogue is not very good, it just prattles on and on - every time the story returned to the two of them, I sighed. The movie is better when it focuses on the rest of the town.
