trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders?

Stanton is right! I'd rate FoD lower though. I really have trouble watching it all in once sitting. But I could watch all its good parts over and over whole day long.

I've watched it straight many times.

On another note, I recently had Netflix N Chill night with Miss Baltimore, so I showed her FAFDM - and she loved it! Then  I decided to mix things up with a melodrama; halfway through she says, "Let's watch another Western!" So I showed her GBU. As I expected, the first part moved a bit slow for someone not used to the Leone pace, but as it picked up, she really enjoyed it, now she is a Leone fan!!!!! Plus she has Double D?s. This babe might be a keeper >:D

Wrath of Man (2021) - 10/10.
Statham is back! Guy Ritchie is back! Massive firefights and high body counts: back and back! And it's all in glorious IMAX (which is also back). Great plot, with due consideration for a variety of characters and their backstories. Yeah, baby!

Somehow, I find this rating as hard to buy as that tired "Guy Ritchie is back" claim that we hear every time he shows up with yet another mediocre and visibly exhausted film. But hey I haven't even seen the trailer so I may be wrong.

Mektoub, My Love: Canto Uno 8.5/10
Second watch, I was really into it this time. My money is on Kechiche ending up in history books as one i=of the most important filmmakers of the 2010's. I don't put a lot of money on his 2020's career as Me Too is after him and he definitely isn't well equiped to fight back (his name became synonymous with "male gaze" when the sequel of that movie was showed in Cannes back in 2019... and the film was never released). Here is how Abdellatif Kechiche films a classic shot/reverse shot:

But The Gentlemen last year was really good. His best since ages, maybe his best at all. 8/10

Maigret Sets a Trap (1958) - 9/10. A Jack the Ripper style serial killer is stalking Parisian women, and Maigret must stop him. But he has no leads. So he . . . (wait for it) . . . sets a trap! This film features one of the most compelling 3rd Degree sequences ever . . . and a fabulous twist.
Could be paired with this one, although the point in common is not quickly discovered:

Hanaoka Seishu no tsuma  / The Wife of Seishu Hanaoka (1967) 9/10. A change of pace for Yasuzo Masumura: an account of the first doctor in Japan to use a general anesthetic while performing surgery. The doctor's mother and wife compete to be his guinea pigs.  https://ok.ru/video/2071919659630

Come on, it was watchable and forgettable. Also is there anybody on earth who actually likes spending time watching Charlie Hunnam on screen? Hugh Grant on the other hand was perfectly casted.

The Witness (1946) - 6/10. A man is condemned to death for murder, but then the state's key witness recants . . . An interesting film by Pietro Germi where you never know what's going to happen next. The ending doesn't quite work, though. https://ok.ru/video/2416383232622

Grant was great, yes, and I know some people who like that Hunnam guy.

The Gentlemen is a very entertaining post-Tarantino flic. I just bought the Blu.

For the record I don't hate Hunnam at all, he's just way too bland to be watched for half a movie. In this particular one he managed to turn a classic but easy character to play into a really boring experience for everybody involved.

Stanton, you're the first person i know who isn't my dad (but aren't you?) to express any kind of enthusiasm about The Gentlemen. That I remember. DJ may be on your side on this.

My girlfriend hated the movie (it doesn't deserve that. My whole point is that it doesn't deserve any strong feeling) but enjoyed a lot everything that involved Matthew too. I guess you aren't my dad but Matthew is gonna be our children's dad.

I might. I haven't seen it (but the trailer makes it look rather jokey). OK, your exchange with stanton has piqued my interest. And the blu is pretty cheap. I'll get it and let you know tomorrow.
