So I was on youtube looking up videos of this guitarist Shawn Lane, because he's supposedly the fastest who ever lived, and I stumbled on these lovely two videos.

One of him playing Once Upon a Time in the West

And one of him playing the "Death Theme" from The Untouchables.

I've seen the OUATITW vid but not the Death theme.

I'm not a big fan of shred guitaring (even some of the licks in the 1st vid are a bit much for me) but these covers are just drenched with soul  :).

ALSO: whats up with the italian youtube lately?

I think the italian youtube is all Titoli's fault.  He's been posting a lot of vids lately and I think after the members watch a few of them, it just redirects to italian youtube whenever you go there.  I've tried to click on the "English" option at the top of the screen, but it still takes me to Italian youtube whenever i type it in.

Oh well, it's not a big deal.

And i agree, these are much more soulful covers than say.. Metallica's dreadful attempt at Ecstasy of Gold (it makes me physically nauseous).

EDIT: Your assessment of Shredding is also quite accurate.  However, I remember picking up a guitar world magazine not long ago where they had seen how fast guitarists could alternate pick, by figuring out the notes per second.  This Shawn Lane guy was number one with 18 notes per second, but it made me very happy that ahead of wankers like Yngwie Malmsteen or Jason Becker, and shredders like Buckethead and Michael Angelo Batio who geeks praise, were these three masters:

Any way to take that Shawn Lane and make it an audio file only & copy it to a CD?

Sure thang, man.

Just go to listentoyoutube.com

Just put in the URL of the youtube video and you get the audio as an MP3, then use your iTunes or Windows Media or whatever you usually use to burn CDs.

Well I got that listen to youtube working and made me a fine CD of Morricone Western soundtrack tunes that I never had access to before. I grouped them by film and used "musical pocketwatch" as a bridge between the groupings so now it sounds we are advancing on a clock and every "hour strike" are samples of a different film soundtrack, works nicely.

Thanks silencio  O0
