No matter how overly hailed those films are, you're pretty much an idiot if you can't recognize how many great and memorable scenes consist in this trilogy.

The best I'd say, and one of the best of any movie, is the argument between Michael and his wife in Part II - the abortion scene. The most powerful, tense and well acted scene in nearly any movie.

The acting by Al Pacino is some of the best acting I've ever seen during this sequence. You can see the rage building up inside of him as Kay tells him the awful news. This scene is indeed powerful and nothing short of brilliant.

The glance that makes holes in the silver screen

Well, the montage towards the end of part I is always great. Also Luca Brasi's death scene, the hospital scene and almost the ending where Michael tells Kay with straight face that he did not have Connie's husband killed. Oh, and there's some brilliant acting in the scene where Tom Hagen tells Don Vito that Sonny is dead. Can't really remember particular scenes from the sequels right now but the one rrpower mentioned is great.

Great question. I'll go for the cliched answer of the baptism scene in the first one, although I also liked the lengthy scene in Part II where Vito stalked and killed Don Fanucchi, the failed hit on Pentangeli ("Michael Corleone says hello!"), and the equivalent montage at the end. Plus the Senate scenes were pretty funny IMO.

That's a great scene. Unforgettable with all of its little details, Fanucchi turning the light on and off, the towel catching fire, Vito breaking the gun and dropping the parts into chimneys...

How bout the opening scene? Possibly the greatest opening ever. I love that opening monologue.

I think I'll go against the idea of 'opinions' and say that anyone who says there is another movie with more memorable, great scenes than The Godfather I and II overall is completely wrong. Not that they're the best movies, but they each have a collection of absolutely incredible scenes.

Once Upon a Time in the West/America included RR? I'm not sure I'd sign that.

Yeah, I'd have to say West and America have more memorable scenes than Godfather I and II overall. Yeah. Almost positive.

West and America are far and away overall way better than the Godfather movies, but when we're talking single great/especially memorable scenes, Godfather takes the cake. They're pretty close though.
