« #105 : December 19, 2013, 09:35:02 AM »

great job, pippo  O0 O0 O0 O0

if you compare that Google Maps street view image to the screen caps from OUATIA a few pages back on this thread http://www.fistful-of-leone.com/forums/index.php?topic=8376.60

you can tell, it's nearly 100% certain that this is indeed the building they used.

Somebody should email A1 about this, cuz he got it wrong. On his fantastic site http://msb247.awardspace.com/indxloc.htm click "Filming Locations" on the top left corner, then click "Montreal," and he says that the scene where "Noodles Goes to a Reformatory for Boys" was filmed in Montreal. Well, he is wrong about that.

I don't see any contact info for him on his website, but I know he used to be on these boards and I figger some of y'all may have contact with him; if any of you do, definitely let him know about this so he can update his site.

Again, great job pippo  O0 O0 O0

DJ, you gotta add this to the paper clip  ;)

I did (secretary@onceuponatimeinamerica.net) and this is the result, take a look http://msb247.awardspace.com/indxloc.htm (they used your informations here http://msb247.awardspace.com/loc/11brook.htm, and I thank you all)

nice job, pippo.

If you're in the mood of emailing him again, you can tell him that while his website has separate sections for "Brooklyn" and "Williamsburg," Williamsburg is in fact a neighborhood in Brooklyn. What he should do is split it up between "Williamsburg" and "DUMBO" - because I believe all the non-Williamsburg locations in Brooklyn are in DUMBO. Anyway, I am pretty sure this location of the reformatory is in Williamsburg, but he mistakenly put it in the "Brooklyn" section....

Sterling work Chris on finding the prison & great photos too😉👍
The photo you posted of the guy walking through the Archway of the prison - I've got a photo of Leone & crew members walking through the same arch - I'll dig it out and post it soon👍
Ps I visited the Brasserie Julien in Paris at Xmas (deleted scene Grand Central Train station buffet/Elizabeth McGovern)  - had a nice meal, spoke to staff and took a few photos - I'll post them too when I get the chance😉👍

In the Montreal Gazette article the French seaside town of "Biarritz" was mentioned as a location - I found this really interesting as this was the first time I'd heard this location mentioned.  In Frayling's book the filming schedule (June 1982 - March/April 1983) is listed as follows: Rome, Paris, Venice, Rome, Canada, New Jersey, Florida, New York, Rome, Venice, Lake Como, Rome.  I wonder if this location was abandoned at some point in the schedule?  The town of Biarritz in the 1920's was known as the "Queen Of Resorts and Resort Of Kings" it attracted the rich & famous including movie stars, gangsters and politicians.
The most famous landmark in the resort town is the  "Hotel Du Palais" -  Built in 1855 by Napoleon III for his wife Eugenie De Montigo - over the years guests have included Coco Chanel, Ernest Hemingway, Ava Gardner & Frank Sinatra.  I've posted some links to the hotel & photos.  Was this hotel which has a grand ballroom and would have looked perfect for a 1930's internal location maybe have been considered for the restaurant/dance scene with De Niro/McGovern and then it was decided to shoot both the beach & restaurant scenes at the Hotel Excelsior/Lido Venice?

Chris to assist you I'm sure "Old Truck/Bootlegged Liquor" Victoria Square  is where Noodles (1933) looks at the three dead bodies on the street & St.Patrick street is where "Jimmy O' Donnell" is shot in the leg (not Noodles) think they made a mistake.

The three dead bodies/burnt out bootleg truck is going to be very tough to location to match, scene was brief, shot at night and raining - but good luck😉👍

Yes that's the street where the car speeds away from Chris but is it where Jimmy/Treat Williams actually is shot?  Personally I don't think it is - but stand corrected if wrong😊
