Early Buddy Movies

I'm trying to think of early buddy movies, that genre has been around for a while.

Of course for me FAFDM is a buddy movie and GBU is the ultimate reluctant buddie movie, lol. I think one of the key ingredients of a good buddy movie is humor.

"Hudson's Bay" with Paul Muni & Louis Cregar as Radisson and Groselliers (Gooseberries).

"Cool Hand Luke" with Paul Newman and Arthur Kenedy as Cool Hand and Dragline.

"Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" with Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

Can you think of any others? I'll post more as they come to me.

speaking of reluctant buddy films, de niro & grodin, the perfect odd couple in MIDNIGHT RUN.  grodin trys to get di niro to give up smoking as de niro has to keep a sharp blondie/tucoesque eye out to keep grodin from slipping away.  great "road" movie as well. although RUN isn't an early buddy movie. '88.  

monday, escape with their lives from new york.
tues, impersanate FBI agents in chicago.
wed, steal a plane to new mexico.
thurs, almost kill each other by accident.
fri. almost kill each other on pourpose.

I think the Stooges were the original 3-Man Buddy set up.  The Howards on the one side, the Fines on the other side, and Shemp in the middle.

I didn't include pure comedy movies, if I did I would have to say Laurel & Hardy, Abbot & Costello, Martin & Lewis,  I was thinking more action, adventure, western, etc.

It seems like John Wayne had a bunch of "Buddy" movies.  EL DORADO and ROOSTER COGBURN come to mind.

A favorite oddball buddy western of mine is BAD COMPANY (no connection to the lame Chris Rock/Anthony Hopkins film).  It stars a very young Jeff Bridges and was made by Robert Benton and David Newman, who wrote BONNIE AND CLYDE.  They said they always liked the old John Wayne fiilms where he would meet up with some old buddy and they had this long history.  Benton and Newman said that BAD COMPANY was intended to be the story about how those two characters first met.  Bridges is probably the Wayne figure and the other main character is obviously supposed to be a James Steward figure.  It's not a classic, but it's a very good and a must see film (and it's a buddy film).

Yea I remember seeing a short bit of that actually not that long ago in fact, I was switching channels and came a cross it. Didn't know where in the course of the film I was in but didn't get to watch a whole lot of it.
